Company History

Ricci Construction Company Incorporated was founded in Portsmouth New Hampshire in 1935 by Erminio A. Ricci. Erminio left Italy in 1920 and sailed to America in search of his future. His initial vision was to start a masonry contracting business. He achieved his vision and more as the company quickly evolved into a general contracting business concentrating in the construction of new homes.

In 1956 Erminio's son Robert (Bud) joined his father in business and one of their first projects was the development of Elwyn Park in Portsmouth, a 400 unit housing development for both military and civilian families. Bud reflects on those early years working with his father and recalls their need for a more viable means to obtain the building materials that they were in need of. In 1957 they started Ricci Supply Company Incorporated, a full service lumberyard. This was a natural out-growth of their contracting business. Today, Ricci Lumber is owned by the Ricci and Hayes families.

During the seventies and eighties, the firm continued to grow and began focusing on more commercial projects.

The company continues to grow today as the company's expertise is in all types of construction including multi-million dollar buildings, pharmaceutical facilities, federal housing projects, and industrial/institutional projects, as well as the construction of new and upgrading of existing residential homes.

Bud's two sons currently operate the company. Butch joined the firm in 1983 and is the company President. John joined the firm in 1997 and is the company Vice President.
